Never let your service for Jesus replace your dependence on Jesus.
One of the most dangerous places for a believer is when we begin to think that our history with God excuses our current disobedience. Peter understood this. He was not an unbeliever when Paul corrected him in Antioch. He was an apostle, a leader, and a man powerfully used by Jesus. Yet, under pressure, he backed away from the truth because he feared people more than God.
That is how entitlement begins. It does not always sound rebellious. Sometimes it sounds like, “I’ve served for years. I’ve sacrificed. I’ve prayed. I’ve built a ministry. I’ve done more than most.” But past obedience never gives us permission for present compromise.
God has no favorites. That truth keeps us humble. It reminds us that gifting does not replace surrender, and service does not replace obedience.
There are two ditches believers can fall into. One is legalism—trying to earn God’s love through performance. The other is lawlessness—using grace as permission to live without surrender. God’s love keeps us from legalism, but the fear of the Lord keeps us from compromise. Holy fear keeps our hearts tender, teachable, and honest. It reminds us that holiness is not bondage—it is freedom to live fully aligned with Jesus.
Today's Prayer
Jesus, forgive us for every place pride, entitlement, or compromise has entered our hearts. Keep us humble before You. Teach us to walk in both Your love and holy fear. Help us stay on the narrow path that leads to life, truth, and intimacy with You. In Your name, Jesus, Amen.
Today's Activation
Today, ask the Holy Spirit: “Where have I allowed past obedience to excuse present compromise?” Then surrender that area back to Jesus with humility and obedience.
