Every person carries three images: the perceived image, the projected image, and the actual image. The perceived image is how others see us. The projected image is how we want others to see us. But the actual image is who we really are before God. Our culture puts heavy pressure on the first two. We learn how to manage our reputation, protect our appearance, post at the right moments, say the right words, and appear more surrendered than we actually are. But God is not examining our brand. He is examining our hearts.
Jesus never lived for a projected image. Some people misunderstood Him, accused Him, rejected Him, and misrepresented Him. Yet He stayed free because His identity was anchored in the Father’s voice: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Jesus did not need self-promotion because He lived from truth.
The fear of man makes us protect our image. The fear of the Lord brings us back to integrity. It reminds us that what is hidden will be revealed—not to destroy us, but to invite us into freedom.
Ananias and Sapphira were trapped by a projected image. They wanted to look fully surrendered while secretly holding back. Their issue was not the offering; it was the motive. Holy fear protects us from living a life that looks right publicly but is divided privately.
