Holy fear trusts God’s wisdom even when God’s instructions make no sense to human reasoning.
The clearest evidence of a healthy fear of God is obedience when His instructions don’t make sense.
Throughout Scripture, God’s wisdom often appeared unreasonable to human understanding. Jesus put mud on a blind man’s eyes to restore sight. Servants filled wine vessels with water when wine was needed. Joshua marched around the city walls instead of attacking them. Peter launched back into the deep water after spending all night unsuccessfully fishing.
None of these instructions made sense in the moment. Yet every act of obedience revealed the wisdom of God through the results that followed.
The fear of the Lord teaches us to trust God’s wisdom above our own. It moves us beyond needing every answer, every explanation, and every reason before we obey. We obey because we trust the One who speaks.
Many times, our greatest obstacle is not rebellion but dependence on our own understanding. We want God to explain everything before we move. Yet faith says, “I don’t understand, but I trust You.”
Peter’s response remains one of the greatest examples of surrendered obedience: “But because You say so, I will.”
The fear of the Lord is not merely respecting God; it is trusting Him enough to follow His voice even when the path seems illogical. His wisdom always exceeds ours, and His instructions always lead to life.
Today's Prayer
Jesus, forgive us for the times we have trusted our own understanding more than Your wisdom. Teach us to recognize Your voice and respond with immediate obedience. Give us faith to trust You when we cannot see the outcome and give us courage to follow You when Your instructions challenge our logic. May we become sons and daughters who fear You, trust You, and follow You regardless of whether we understand the reason. In Your name, Jesus, Amen.
Today's Activation
Think about one area of your life where you have been waiting for God to explain “why” before you obey. Today, surrender that requirement and pray: “Lord, I choose to trust Your wisdom above my understanding. Show me my next step and empower me through Your Spirit to obey.”
