“But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” — Matthew 5:39
One of the greatest tests of discipleship is not how we respond when people honor us, but how we respond when they misunderstand us, criticize us, or treat us unfairly.
The world teaches us to defend our rights, protect our reputation, and get even. Jesus teaches something radically different. He calls us to reveal His character by choosing humility over pride, mercy over revenge, forgiveness over offense, and love over retaliation.
Going the second mile is more than doing extra—it is allowing Christ to be seen through us. Every insult becomes an opportunity to reveal His gentleness. Every disappointment becomes an opportunity to demonstrate His faithfulness. Every offense becomes an opportunity to extend the same grace that He has shown us. Thus, the reason for His Promised new birth Spirit empowerment.
Jesus didn’t simply teach the second mile—He lived it. Peter wrote that when Jesus was insulted, “He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats. Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly” (1 Peter 2:23).
As disciples, our goal is not merely to believe in the Cross but to carry it through His empowering Spirit led life. We are called to represent Jesus, especially when it costs us something.
Today’s Challenge:
• In His empowering Spirit, release every offense to Jesus.
• Pray for someone who has hurt or misunderstood you.
• Go beyond what is expected in your home, workplace, or church.
• Before responding to any difficult situation, ask yourself:
“Will my response reveal me—or will it reveal Jesus?”
The second mile is where the Life of Jesus becomes visible. It isn’t weakness—it is the strength of a disciple whose identity, honor, and satisfaction are found in Jesus alone; the Spirit filled, Spirit led Life!
Restoring Christ’s Lordship in Our Hearts
We can all agree that our devotion to Jesus is never the distraction. Our covenant of wholehearted devotion to Him in our singleness, our marriage covenant with both Christ and our spouse, and His commission to go, baptize, and make disciples are the very priorities...
