The Cross, His Righteousness, and His Life Formed in Us
Key Truth: A life of repentance turns us toward Jesus, whose righteousness restores our fellowship with Him. His Spirit empowers us to hear and obey Him, and His joy strengthens us as His life is revealed through us.
DEATH TO SIN — Repentance: At the cross, Jesus calls us to surrender sin, pride, and self-rule. Repentance is more than regret; it is continually agreeing with His truth and turning toward Him. God’s kindness leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). We stop defending ourselves and begin listening to Jesus. Do not miss an opportunity to repent.
BURIAL IN WATER — Righteousness: In baptism we identify with Christ’s death and burial (Romans 6:3–4). Yet righteousness is not earned by repentance or produced by water; it is God’s gift received through faith in Jesus (Romans 3:22). As we turn toward Him, we trust His finished work rather than our performance. When we repent, He restores our fellowship with Him and gives us confidence to approach Him, hear His voice, and respond with trust and obedience.
RESURRECTION TO LIFE — Obedience: Raised to walk in newness of life, Jesus empowers by His Spirit to follow Him. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27, NIV). True worship in Spirit and Truth is a surrendered life that trusts what Jesus says and obeys His leading. Obedience does not earn His love; it expresses our love and trust.
HIS JOY — HIS LIFE REVEALED: Jesus connects remaining in His love with obedience and fullness of joy (John 15:10–11). His joy strengthens us (Nehemiah 8:10) to forgive, serve, love, and persevere. As the Holy Spirit forms Christ in us, our lives become His witness to the world (Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:18).
Reflection & Activation: What am I defending that Jesus is asking me to surrender? Listen to His voice, repent, trust His righteousness, and immediately take the step of obedience today. Let every person He places in the path He has you on encounter His love through you.
Prayer: Jesus, keep our hearts repentant and our ears attentive. Teach us to rest in Your righteousness, follow Your Spirit, and reveal Your life to others. Amen.
