“In The Name of Jesus” Revealed

by | Jun 25, 2026

Salvation is ultimately about the revelation of Jesus Christ. Throughout Scripture, God progressively reveals Himself, His name, His nature, His authority, and His purpose for humanity. The fullness of that revelation is found in Jesus Christ.
The biblical concept of “name” is far more than a title or label. A name represents identity, authority, character, reputation, nature, and purpose. To come “in someone’s name” is to come representing everything that person is.

Jesus declared: “I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.” — John 5:43 NIV

The Son of God did not come promoting Himself independently of His Father. He came bearing His Father’s name, authority, character, and purpose. Everything Jesus said, did, and demonstrated was the Father revealing Himself through His Son; His only body.

Jesus tells Philip:“Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9)

The Father was not absent from Christ; He was being revealed through Christ.

Likewise, Jesus said: “the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John‬ ‭14‬:‭26‬ ‭KJV‬‬
• Isn’t it interesting that Jesus said of Himself just prior to this verse: “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” John‬ ‭14‬:‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Holy Spirit comes in the name of Jesus. Just as Jesus came in His Father’s name, the Holy Spirit comes in Jesus’ name, continuing the revelation and empowering work of God in the lives of believers.

Notice the pattern:
• The Son comes in the Father’s name.
• The Holy Spirit comes in Jesus’ name.
• The revelation continually points us to the fullness of God revealed in Christ.

This helps us understand Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus did not say “names” (plural). He said “name” (singular). The focus of the command is not three separate identities but one revealed name that encompasses the fullness of God’s redemptive revelation as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The apostles understood this revelation. Throughout the book of Acts, they consistently baptized believers in the name of Jesus Christ because they recognized that Jesus is the revealed name through which God has made Himself known and through which salvation is given.

Peter proclaimed: “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” (Acts 2:38)

Shortly there after, he declared: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

The message of salvation is not merely about repeating a formula. It is about receiving the revelation of who Jesus is.

In Jesus we see:
• The Father revealed.
• The Savior manifested.
• The Lamb provided.
• The Redeemer crucified.
• The Lord risen.
• The Spirit poured out.

The name of Jesus represents the fullness of God’s self-revelation to humanity.
• To believe in His name is to believe in who He is.
• To be baptized in His name is to identify with His death, burial, and resurrection.
• To call upon His name is to place our faith in God’s revealed plan of salvation.
• The Gospel is the revelation that the one true God has made Himself known in Jesus Christ so that humanity might know Him, trust Him, be saved and empowered through His Spirit as His witness, in His name.
