IIf our devotion to Christ—our singleness of heart toward Him, our marriage covenant with Him and our spouse, and His mission to baptize and make disciples—is being hindered by our standard of living, possessions, personal ambitions, or the pursuit of comfort, then it is worth pausing to reconsider the example Jesus set before us.
 
The Son of God did not come to establish an earthly kingdom of wealth, comfort, or personal success. He came to reveal the Father’s heart through complete surrender. Though He is the King of kings, He willingly laid aside every earthly privilege. At the cross, He owned so little that the only earthly possession left to Him was His robe, and even that was taken as soldiers cast lots for it (John 19:23–24). Yet by giving everything, He purchased for us what we could never earn—eternal life.
 
His Life asks every disciple a searching question: What is keeping us from giving Him everything when He withheld nothing from us?
 
Jesus’ standard was never measured by what He accumulated, but by what He surrendered. As the Son of God, His joy was not found in possessions but in pleasing His Father and accomplishing His will (John 4:34). His treasure was not on earth but in bringing sons and daughters into His Kingdom.
 
As His disciples, our calling has not changed. We have been commissioned to:
·     Love Jesus with an undivided heart.
·     Honor our marriage covenant as a reflection of Christ’s covenant with His Church.
·     Go into all the world, baptizing believers and making disciples who obey everything He has commanded (Matthew 28:19–20; Luke 24:44-49; Mark 16:15-18; Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:36-44).
 
Anything that competes with these priorities deserves honest examination. It may not be sinful in itself, but if it weakens our devotion, consumes our affection, or distracts us from His mission, it has become a weight that should be laid aside (Hebrews 12:1–2).
 
We must Ask Ourselves:
·     Has our pursuit of comfort replaced our pursuit of Christ?
·     Has our lifestyle become more important than His Lordship?
·     Are we investing more time building our own kingdom than advancing His?
·     Is our marriage drawing both of us closer to Jesus and His mission, or further from it?
·     Have the cares of this world, the pursuit of success, financial pressure, entertainment, or personal ambitions crowded out our first love for Christ?
 
The call of Jesus is still the same: “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).
 
Everything surrendered to Jesus is never truly lost. What we lay down in obedience becomes an eternal investment in His Kingdom. When Christ is first, our singleness in Him becomes secure, our marriages become stronger, and His mission becomes our greatest joy.
 
Reflection
What is currently competing for our complete devotion to Jesus? What has quietly taken our attention, our affection, our schedule, or our resources away from loving Him wholeheartedly, strengthening our marriage covenant, and participating in His mission to baptize and make disciples?
 
Activation:
Today, ask the Lord to reveal every distraction, weight, or misplaced priority. Surrender it without reservation. Then intentionally take one step of obedience:
·     Spend uninterrupted time alone with Jesus.
·     Encourage and pray with our spouse.
·     Share the gospel with someone.
·     Invite someone into a discipleship relationship.
·     Help lead someone to be born again. To repent, be water baptized, receive the Spirit and Fire baptism, and go deeper in obedience to Christ.
 
When Jesus becomes our greatest treasure, His mission no longer feels like an obligation—it becomes the joyful overflow of a heart completely devoted to Him. It is then that we are developing in our awe and reverence of Him!
