Where Awe Is Missing

by | Mar 22, 2026

The awe of God begins in a place of singleness with Him—where He alone is our source, our focus, our first love as sons and daughters. But it doesn’t stay there. That awe draws us into covenant, where He joins us together, forming relationships that are rooted in Him, sustained by Him, and defined by Him as His Body. To live in awe of God as our source is everything; it is the foundation that holds every relationship together.

Every broken relationship can be traced back to a misplaced fear of God—a fear that has been distorted, diminished, or replaced.

  • When people give more weight to what they know about God than to walking with God, the relationship loses its Life.
  • When couples stand in awe of their own understanding, doctrine, or experience instead of awe for the living voice of God, they exchange intimacy for information—and the result is distance, not unity.

Where our awe for and of God is absent, self-will quietly takes over.

Many relationships lack joy and peace not because of incompatibility, but because God is no longer central. Without Him as the spiritual bond—the living glue—relationships begin to strain, weaken, and eventually fracture. But where there is a true awe of God, self-will is surrendered, unity is restored, and Life begins to flow again.
