We can all agree that our devotion to Jesus is never the distraction. Our covenant of wholehearted devotion to Him in our singleness, our marriage covenant with both Christ and our spouse, and His commission to go, baptize, and make disciples are the very priorities around which our lives are to be ordered.
From house to house, breaking bread together, living in fellowship, and continuing steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine are not interruptions to life—they are God’s design for life as disciples (Acts 2:42–47). These are the relationships and responsibilities through which Christ forms us into His image.
The real distractions are the countless demands, pursuits, and priorities that quietly compete for Christ’s Lordship over our hearts, our schedules, our marriages, and the Kingdom family He has entrusted to us. Jesus reminds us in Luke 17:5–10 that faithful disciples simply do what their Master has commanded. Our lives are not our own; they belong to Him.
Therefore, identifying and removing the distractions that diminish Christ’s rightful place in our daily lives is essential. Every competing priority that pulls us away from His presence, His purposes, our spouse, or His church weakens our identity as His disciples. As we restore Jesus to His rightful place of Lordship, we rediscover the peace, joy, purpose, and fruitfulness that are found only in living under His Kingdom rule.
This week, prayerfully examine your daily life through the lens of Christ’s Lordship.
Ask yourself:
• What is consuming my time, thoughts, and energy that Jesus never asked me to carry?
• What activities or priorities have slowly displaced my devotion to Christ?
• Is my schedule reflecting my covenant with Jesus, my marriage, and His commission to make disciples?
• Am I intentionally investing in the Kingdom family God has entrusted to me through fellowship, breaking bread, prayer, and discipleship?
Now take one practical step today:
1. Remove or reduce one distraction that competes with your devotion to Jesus.
2. Schedule intentional time with Christ before everything else.
3. Invest in your spouse by giving them your undivided attention through prayer, conversation, or serving them in love.
4. Reach out to someone in your church family to encourage, pray with, share a meal, or disciple them.
5. Ask the Holy Spirit each morning, “Lord, what would You have me do today?” Then obey His leading without delay.
Close in prayer: “Jesus, You alone are Lord. Search my heart and reveal every distraction that competes with Your rightful place in my life. Restore my first love for You. Teach me to order my time, my relationships, and my priorities around Your Kingdom. Help me faithfully love my spouse, serve Your family, and fulfill Your commission with joy. Let my life reflect Your Lordship in every decision I make. Amen.”
